So Arizona's collective "Fashion Weeks" are over and some people are still scratching their heads as to which was which (after all, they were mere blocks from each other). This has led to the somewhat heated debate over which was better, why does Arizona host two Fashion Weeks and which city or both should host next year? Of course I have my opinion but I'm more interested in hearing from you. Phoenix, Scottsdale or both?

I honestly think both should combine together. I also have my other thought. What independent designer is going to pay 10k to be in Scottsdale fashion week. "I wouldn't because i haven't generated that much yet. Phoenix Fashion week is a great opportunity for young and up and coming designers to show there work. Even after all the craziness the publicity is still there for phoenix fashion week, at a better price.
I totally agree that the 2 forces should combine for an ultimate Fashion Week within Phx and Scottsdale's venues. Not only is it confusing to hold PFW in Scottsdale, but the immediate day prior to Scottsdale's ending? Talk about confusing.
Really, if we are trying to Launch AZ into the Fashion Scene throughout the country and internationally, there should be no rivalry. People need to suck up their prides and focus n the task and ultimate goal to be obtained. There's no reason w/ PFW's savvy fashionistas and creative backbone, and Scottsdale's elite positioning within the state currently that AZ as a whole can't launch to a close degree as the rest of the fashion forward capitals.
I'm a firm believer, being that I was highly proactive w/in the PFW committee, as hard as we all worked, the hours dedicated should have resulted in a better production. With better organization, thorough leaders, and appropriate planning, AZ could be a HAUTE (hahah... u like that) commodity.
I'm the owner of an East Valley boutique that strives to support local business as well as the top national brands. I was told by Scottsdale Fashion Week that because my store was not located in SCOTTSDALE that I would have to purchase tickets to the shows to have access to the designers. The Scottsdale stores were given tickets for free. I'm sure that the designers and other entrepreneurs struggling to get their lines off the ground would have loved to know that!
In my opinion the organizers approached this event the same as they do most events in Scottsdale (as a see and be seen rather than a true working fashion event)and because of that, the success was limited.
Going forward, the events should mirror those in other cities and offer all store owners and buyers access to the events for free. I know that I would have much rather seen up and coming designers for my store than been at a Wyclef Jean concert.
Rickie, I am not sure where you got your information but I truly hope that was a typo! Scottsdale Fashion Week does NOT charge $10,000 to do a show. I am a local designer just getting started and Scottsdale Fashion Week has been nothing short of stellar in working with me and my budget. Since I am not making money right now, my best option is to do the Designer of the Year contest (which is FREE!!) which Scottsdale Fashion Week is doing with Fox 10. How awesome is that? I hope to do my own show next year at Scottsdale Fashion Week!!!!
